We have just confirmed our latest school that we are supporting with Child's Dream in Lao, the Na Muang Primary School.
Located in the Savannakhet province in the Southern part of Lao, the school is responsible for the education of a total of 118 children aged between 6 and 10 years of age coming from 3 different villages. Being one of the few primary schools in the area, Na Muang Primary School plays a critical role in providing the foundational education for the children in that area.
The existing school buidings were built over 40 years ago, therefore it is no great surprise that they have deteriorated greatly over the years and are now deemed no longer safe for classes. With the help of the Child's Dream Lao project team, headed up by Koy Matakoon, a new school building with five classrooms will be built. In addition, the new classrooms will be equipped with school furniture and a separate toilet building will be constructed for the children.
The villagers will contribute their labour and wood forms for the scaffolding and frames for the construction. All other required construction materials will be sourced and transported from the district of Xeno which is approximately 90kms from the school.
We expect construction to begin in September this year and be completed by March of next year. The estimated cost of the project is US$47,000.
