Order of Service

A memorial service was held on 11th September, 2006 at St Thomas Church in North Sydney to share some key memories of our dear Andrew and say our goodbyes.

You Never Said Goodbye

You never said I'm leaving
You never said goodbye
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knew why.
A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died
In life I loved you dearly
In death I love you still
In my heart you hold a place,
That no one will ever fill
It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn't go alone
For part of me went with you,
The day God took you home.

1st Bible Reading

John 14: 1 - 6
Jesus said to his friends:
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."

Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth of life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Special Presentation & Reflection

2nd Reading
Death is nothing at all

I have only slipped away into the next room, I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name; speak to me in the easy way you always used. Put no difference into your tone; wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we always enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be forever the same as it always was, let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow in it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is absolute unbroken continuity. I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
...All is well.

If tears could build a stairway

If tears could build a stairway and thoughts a memory lane, I'd walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again. No farewell words were spoken. No time to say good-bye. You were gone before I knew it And only God knows why. My heart still aches in sadness and secret tears will flow. What is meant to lose you, no one will ever know. But now I know you want us to mourn for you no more. To remember all the happy times life still has much in store. Since you'll never be forgotten I pledge to you today a hallowed place within my heart is where you'll always stay. God knows why, with chilling touch, death gathers those we love so much. And what now seems so strange and dim, will all be clear, when we meet him.

The Lords Prayer

Our father who art in heaven
hallowed by thy name
thy kingdom come
they will be done on earth as it is in Heaven
Give us today our daily bread
Forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, the power
and the glory for ever and ever. Amen
