Shan Chaung Monastic School in Myanmar

Tuesday, 20th September 2011

We are very excited to be sponsoring our first school in Myanmar, the Shan Chaung Monastic (SCG) School (SCG).

Established in the 1990's, SCG plays a critical role in providing primary education to this small coastal community in the Mon State of Myanmar. The school originates from the Buddhist temple, which is the traditional source of education in Myanmar. Located close to the Andaman Sea, the condition of the facility, particularly the building occupied by the Grade 1 and 2 classes, was in terrible condition.

With the help of the Child's Dream Burma project team, a new building will be built to teach the existing 114 students from Grade 1 though to Grade 7.

Construction is expected to kick-off in October and be completed by the end of the year. The total budget for the school is US$16,500 as it will be built using mostly wood. Two toilet facilities will also be built together with a very-much needed water storage tank.
